Borussia Dortmund has confirmed that they have signed Sebastian Haller from Ajax for €34.5 million. Dortmund completed the signing of Ivorian striker Sebastian Haller from Ajax last Wednesday as the Bundesliga club tried to fill the vacancy left by Erling Haaland’s departure. Ajax striker Sebastien Haller joined Borussia Bundesliga Dortmund following the sale of Erling Haaland to Manchester City. At the same time, Borussia also acquired exciting striker Karim Adeyemi from RB Salzburg early in the transfer window. After a brilliant season with Ajax last season, Sebastien Haller emerged as one of Europe’s top strikers, scoring 34 goals and nine assists in all competitions. Sebastien Haller moves from Ajax Amsterdam to Borussia Dortmund, participating in the Champions League.
Former West Ham United player Haller scored 47 goals in 66 games, including 11 in recent Champions League seasons, as he broke several football records. British and German media have reported that Borussia Dortmund has paid a €31m ($31.55m) down payment for Dutch Amsterdam Ajax striker Sebastian Haller. Borussia Dortmund is delighted to have been able to sign Sebastian Haller, an experienced centre-forward who recently made a splash in the Champions League but also knows the Bundesliga in particular and has already shown Sebastian Haller’s quality of play there, said Kehl, to the club’s official website. At Haller, his new club, Borussia Dortmund, signed a striker who would provide a reliable scoreline without the club’s overdependence on a single striker, as was the case when Erling Haaland was still at Dortmund; it remains to be seen whether a better club has paid this off.
Haller completed the season with an Eredivisie-leading 21 goals. He finished third in the UEFA Champions League standings, following Karim Benzema (15) and Robert Lewandowski (13) by scoring 11 times all through Ajax’s run to the round of 16. The 28-year-old forward returns to Germany for a second tour after scoring 33 goals for Eintracht Frankfurt between 2017 and 2019. Haller played at West Ham for just a season and a half, netting ten goals in 48 Premier League games before heading to the Netherlands and joining Ajax in January 2021. After winning a national double in his debut season with the club, the 12-time Cote d’Ivoire international won his second career Eredivisie championship in 2021/22. In 65 competitive games for the record Dutch champions, he added up 47 goals and 16 assists.
Sebastien Haller has stated that one of his primary goals since joining Borussia Dortmund is to assist his new team in ultimately dethroning Bayern Munich as German kings. Haller is one of several noteworthy additions to the squad that veteran coach Edin Terzic will have to deal with, including centre-backs Niklas Süle and Nico Schlotterbeck and fellow forward Karim Adeyemi.
