Trent Alexander-Arnold scored Liverpool’s winning goal in stoppage time against Aston Villa today.
Liverpool were 1-0 down at half time but managed to come back in the second half. Mohamed Salah equalized and Alexander-Arnold scored the winning goal early in stoppage time.
Alexander-Arnold’s goal was really cool.
Alexander-Arnold, 22, has been the subject of much discussion in recent weeks after he was not selected in the England squad for the national games at the end of March. He received a lot of praise for his performance against Arsenal last weekend but had such a hard time drawing against Real Madrid in the Champions League in the middle of the week.
Alexander-Arnold has been criticized for being weak defensively and losing the ball too much. However, he is great offensively.
“I understand the criticism Alexander-Arnold receives for a defensive game, but he is still one of the most talented players I have ever seen. His winning goal today was a reminder that his strengths outweigh his overalls, “ Oliver Holt, the Daily Mail’s sports correspondent , wrote after the game today.
Henry Winter, a British star journalist, praised Alexander-Arnold after the game and asked that whether Gareth Southgate, the national team coach, would show courage by selecting him for the European Championship squad for this summer’s,
whether he will be selected or not remains to be seen.
