Real Madrid 2 – 1 Barcelona
1-0 Karim Benzema (’13)
2-0 Toni Kroos (’28)
2-1 Oscar Mingueza (’60)
Real Madrid were better against arch-rivals in Barcelona in El Clasico tonight.
This was a hugely significant game; there was a lot going on regarding the title fight.
Real Madrid started very well and took the lead after 13 minutes when Karim Benzema scored with his heel into the box. A quarter of an hour later, Toni Kroos scored from a free kick that went into the wall and into the net.
The score was 2-0 at half time but it rained a lot in Madrid almost the whole game. Lionel Messi came close to scoring for Barcelona in the first half when his corner kick bounced off the post.
Barcelona had a lot more of the ball in the game and the visitors narrowed the gap in the 60th minute when defender Oscar Minguez came on and finished well.
Börsungar pressed for an equalizer but it did not come. The young Ilaix Moriba had a shot in the bar at the blue end. Glad for this young boy to see the ball not lying in the net. Barcelona played one more minute after Real Madrid midfielder Casemiro received his second yellow card.
Very fun El Clasico tonight and this victory makes the title fight even more exciting. Barcelona would have gone to the top with five points more than Real Madrid, with a victory tonight. Instead, Real Madrid have joined forces with Atletico Madrid’s neighbors. Real Madrid are at the top due to clashes with Atletico. Both teams have 66 points and Barcelona have 65 points. Atletico are playing well.
Atletico Madrid and Real Madrid will play in the final round in Spain. It could possibly be a final.
